Economic growth and large construction projects in the past years have made Icelandic companies more dependent on foreign workforce than before.

Iceland has made agreements with the European Union and fellow Scandinavian countries that allow free flow of workforce between Iceland and many European countries. Free flow of workforce provides Icelanders with the flexibility needed to take on irregular or temporary projects. Foreign workforce has also come to the rescue for doing jobs Icelanders see as low paying and difficult jobs such as in fish processing.
The free flow of workforce has proven very well for Icelanders, and hopefully for the foreign workers as well, and it has added cultural varieties to our daily. Increasing number of foreigners coming to Iceland to work on temporary jobs has decided to stay for good and many of them have taken the full step of becoming Icelanders. We welcome all foreigners to our country, be it a tourist or a worker, as long as their intentions are good.
