Lake Hredavatn

Lake Hredavatn is in Borgarfjördur in the southwest part of Iceland. It is located near the Bifrost University about 1.5 hours from Reykjavík. The lake is beautiful and offers near endless enjoyment.

Walking along the lake is a nice activity both for individual travelers and families even with small children as the path along the lake is not a road much driven. Birdlife on the lake is abundant with swans and ducks playing front and center.

In winter, the lake sometimes ices up making it a perfect spot for ice-skating. Students in the former Cooperative School of Bifrost used to enjoy it on those occasions. The Cooperative School developed into Bifrost University, and the student body has grown enormously.

Lake Hredavatn Shore

On a walk along Lake Hredavatn last autumn, a little girl discovered the endless fun of throwing small pebbles into the lake. She could have been at it for hours!
